That’s right! Automated. Well—kind of—for the most part. Strong Strap Auto has all the core strength and functionality of the original Strong Strap. It’s still universal, it’s still durable, and it still prevents pests when trash is stored outside. It can still be installed by hand, no tools required. It’s still awesome.
Auto Overview
On trash day, in communities where automated collection vehicles are used, a Strong Strap can be left locked to prevent lids from opening. This is made possible thanks to “auto-notches,” which are small additions to the body of our Strong Strap. When carts are dumped, the Strong Strap will open, assuming the cart contains 10–15 pounds of waste.
The Auto-Notch Rundown
- The auto-notch feature is effective at keeping the lid shut against birds, gusts of wind, and tipped carts.
- The auto-notch feature can be opened with 10-15 pounds of waste on trash day. It is best suited for dense landfill-bound trash.
- The auto-notch is not as effective on recycling and may not open when dumped. The weight and content of the recycling is a driving factor. If your recycling is heavy and includes glass then it may open, otherwise, please be aware.
- The auto-notch feature is not as effective against pests as the full-strength inserts of the original Strong Strap.

Already own a Strong Strap? Don’t worry, the new auto-strap is backward-compatible with existing setups. Replacement straps will also start shipping on July 15, 2025.
